How to Setup Blink Camera – Recommended Steps

Step 1. Getting Started

First, you must set up the Blink system and add a camera. Launch the Blink app and create an account by entering the required details.

Next, add a sync module while setting up the system. Select the add device icon on the Blink app’s home screen to do this.

The Add Device screen will display your device options:

Blink Wireless Camera System incorporates a Sync Module and Blink Outdoor, Indoor (2nd Generation), XT2, XT, or 1st Generation Indoor camera.

Blink Wireless Camera – This option allows you to add a Blink Outdoor, Indoor (2nd Generation), XT2, XT, or 1st Generation Indoor camera after the Sync Module has been added.

Mini Camera – The Mini camera does not require a Sync Module as it operates independently. However, a Mini camera will function like other Blink cameras once it is added to a system monitored by a Sync Module.

Next, locate the serial number of the device. The Blink App will request permission to access the camera on your smart device.

Select okay to allow the Blink app to scan the QR code or enter the serial number manually by selecting ‘Don’t Allow’.

The QR code and serial number can be found on the device itself. Then, create a new system by selecting the text entry box and naming it.

Tap on ‘Done’ to continue. The sync module screen will prompt you to plug in the sync module.

Complete the process and wait for the blinking blue and steady green light pattern.

Step 2. Connecting the Sync Module to the Wi-Fi Network

When you see this pattern on your Sync Module, select ‘Discover Device’. The Blink app will then guide you in connecting the Sync Modules to a Wi-Fi network, labeled as ‘blink’ followed by the last four digits of the Sync Module’s serial number.

Select ‘Join’ and then you’ll be prompted to join your local Wi-Fi network. The Add Sync Module screen will display all the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks within range.

The Sync Module stores network information for all devices added to its system.

If your local Wi-Fi network does not appear, select ‘Refresh list’ at the bottom of the screen. Upon selecting the Wi-Fi network name, you must enter the password correctly.

Select ‘JOIN’ to proceed with the setup.

Once the network setup is complete, you will receive a notification on the screen.

Select ‘DONE’ to finish the installation and return to the Blink app welcome screen to add the camera to the device list.

Step 3. Adding a Camera

Select the ‘+’ (plus) symbol on the Blink App home screen to add a Blink camera to the system. Then, select the Blink wireless camera option and gently scan the QR code sticker inside the camera’s back cover.

Once the Blink system recognizes the serial number, you will be directed to the camera onboarding screen.

You will receive a message indicating the successful setup of the camera device. Select ‘DONE’, and the app will direct you back to the home screen.

To add more cameras to the Blink system, simply repeat the above steps.

If you encounter any issues during the process, try removing the device and then adding it again to the system.

After successfully setting up your Blink camera, check for the camera’s positioning and placement according to your needs and preferences.

Most Blink cameras are sensitive to hot and humid surroundings, so keeping them under shade is highly recommended.

Also, ensure the Wi-Fi signal at the chosen location is strong enough for your Blink camera to function properly.

If Wi-Fi signals are weak and you cannot change the location, consider using a Wi-Fi extender for optimal results.

Additionally, check the live view of the Blink camera after setup to test its efficiency and performance and to avoid any future issues.

The Bottom Line on How to Set Up a Blink Camera

The setup process depends on your Blink camera model. However, the method outlined above will assist you in establishing a connection between the device and the Blink system.
